Gia Kearns would rather fight with boys than kiss them. That is, until Arik, a leather clad hottie in the Boston Athenaeum, suddenly disappears. While examining the book of world libraries he abandoned, Gia unwittingly speaks the key that sucks her and her friends into a photograph and transports them into a Paris library, where Arik and his Sentinels—magical knights charged with protecting humans from the creatures traveling across the gateway books—rescue them from a demonic hound.
Jumping into some of the world's most beautiful libraries would be a dream come true for Gia, if she weren’t busy resisting her heart or dodging an exiled wizard seeking revenge on both the Mystik and human worlds. Add a French flirt obsessed with Arik and a fling with a young wizard, and Gia must choose between her heart and her head, between Arik's world and her own, before both are destroyed.
Gia and her two friends head to this new gorgeous elite library and they quickly find themselves enraptured with the books until Gia sees a hot guy smiling at her, The weird thing is, he disappears, leaving behind an open book on the table. Gia and her friends are sucked into the book and find themselves in another library, in another country, on the run from people who want to kill them and seeking help from magical knights. Matters get worse when they discover that Gia is not exactly human and is becoming the kind of "doomsday baby" everyone was awaiting.
The plot of this book is genius and original without saying, i was gripped at the beginning until about 30% and things went seriously downhill for me, For starters Gia, i don't know if i'm the only one who noticed but she is nothing like "Gia Kearns would rather fight with boys than kiss them" the summary describes. I was picturing maybe not a kickass character but a girl with some...spice? Or someone who would actually fight with boys..Gia was the "oh my god he's hot i'll just go swim in my puddle of drool" and that's fine but it seemed to dumb her down. And she kept complaining-i get it you have a lot of crappy things in your life but there is a limit!
Arik didn't do the drool factor for me either...he seemed cool and awesome at first but ended up being one of the most frustrating characters i've read about. He went from wanting to Gia to dismissing her simply because she was the doomsday baby (within literally seconds) and then simply wanting her again. It felt like Gia was a ping pong ball he kept bouncing back and forth at his whim.
The plot had a lot of promise and i remember being totally HOOKED at the beginning but afterwards it got confusing and very predictable. Despite the confusing times, i really think the world building as a whole was extremely well done and unique. The libraries were so intriguing and the library jumping idea-loved it.
One of the other things that made me appreciate this book, was the side characters. They were all so awesome i wished they were the mains instead! Gia's friendship with her best friends was definitely one of my favorites and especially their potential love relationships! i think i would have LOVED the book if it had been in their perspectives with their love interests!
Anyway i would still gove this book a chance because a lot of people on goodreads have loved it! If you have read it, let me know what you thought!
