RATING: 4.5 STARS!!!

Goodreads Summary

Meet Lilly - talented dancer, quick mouthed, take no shit tough girl who's also good at hiding the fact that she's scared. She doesn't believe in true love or happily ever afters. Unless you count the unbreakable love she has for her overprotective, bullheaded twin brother, who also happens to be her knight in shining armor - which she doesn't.

Kind of hard to love when you can't trust, and trust was something that got shattered along with the rest of her years ago. A lot was taken from her at a young age. She's never gotten over it as much as she's just refused to deal with it.

The only thing in her entire world that still brings her peace is dancing. Her one and only dream is to dance her way to freedom. That freedom just so happens to be at The Elite Academy of Dance. She's more than willing to tuck all those dark and nasty things she doesn't want to think about away, like the darkness that haunts her dreams, and go on pretending, never hoping for anything more - until him.

A story about a girl who pours everything she has into her dancing. Her dream? To get accepted into The Elite Academy of Dance, and spend the rest of her life dancing on stage. To her, that's easier than dealing with the demons from her past and the scars they left on the person she has become today. A smart mouthed, take no shit, tough girl who's also scared, lonely, and closed off to accepting anyone new into her heart.

But in the process of wearing a hole in her ballet slippers, and the help of an ever faithful best friend, her bull headed and overprotective twin brother, and a certain boy who knows how to push her buttons, leaves her wanting for things she never thought she'd want, and just does it for her, she starts to think that maybe, just maybe, there is something more worth fighting her demons for.

This is a story of a girl who fights to make her dream come true. And maybe, just maybe, along the way finds a way to trust again, to love again.

Love, Humor, Passion, Artistry, a story of acceptance.

MY REVIEW

Well basically the synopsis says it all. Lilly and Luke are emancipated twins. They look out for each other and Lilly pours herself into dancing to get into her dream school. But she keeps all her sorrows and trauma inside of her until Carter arrives. He becomes Luke's best friend and is the only one whom Luke doesn't break his ligament for talking with Lilly. On top of that Luke seems to have told him about their horrible past. But how much has he told him and why does he trust him with his sister?

Lilly is a passionate dancer. She's my favourite type of heroine, witty, strong and passionate. The way she describes the feelings when she's dancing, it seems like she's intoxicated with it. She makes dance something beautiful and you  really feel why she loves it. She is HILARIOUS. Her wit had me smiling through the whole book!

If you've read some of my reviews you may have figured out i'm a sucker for sis-bro relationships. Thisone was AMAZING!!Luke and Lilly love each other so much! I almost got a dental carry because of Luke's sweetness towards Lilly. Aww and when they quarrel like siblings and play pranks on each other!!!just-awwwwww!!!

Carter was a hottie. Mysterious, uber-sweet with a danger vibe radiating off him. He confuses Lilly so much and yet its clear he is so totally into her, then why does he push her away? I think what i loved in this book was the connections. Lilly falls in love with Luke's bff and he with hers. Anyway Luke and Carter are like fire breathing dragons guarding Lilly. They are super overprotective of her but not in a stiffling manner. I also really enjoyed the friendship with Andrea and Lilly, they make an amazing pair!

Anyway this book was a great YA contemporary book that i recommend all contemporary lovers to try. It's about a girl who slowly opens up to love and its possibilities while trying to fight the past that keeps interfering.

Goodreads Summary

When Cassondra took Wilma’s energy, Lena’s mission changed. Only revenge matters now.

For the past year, Lena and her small army have tried to finish what they started, beginning with Earth: close the lines between worlds and end Exemplar's hold on humanity. Unfortunately, the task is daunting. But unlike before, Lena has no problem pulling the trigger. As soon as her army takes care of threats in Earth, Lena goes back to Arcus—only to find out where the next war will be.

Tarek will do anything to mend Lena's heart, even while she pushes him away. Only death for a death seems to ease the pain tearing her apart. But as much as he desires to heal the woman he loves, Tarek has to make sure Arcus stays safe from extermination.

After an attack, refugees Tarek has sworn to protect are terrified Exemplian authority will destroy their new home. Not able to defeat Exemplar's direct assault, only one solution remains—a solution that will more than likely end in catastrophe: take the war to Exemplar and shut down their power source.

Lena doesn't see disaster for her army—she sees victory and demands to go, refusing to miss a chance to kill more Exemplians.

While Lena hopes to save Wilma's energy during the impossible mission, Tarek fears Lena will lose more than the war.

If she fails, Lena may lose herself completely.

MY REVIEW

After a certain someone's death, Lena is broken. She kills, she fights and basically detaches herself from her humanity.  Tarek  is also broken, he feels helpless because he can't help Lena find herself but how much longer will he hold on if it means putting his world, Arcus, in danger. Lena's gang will do anything to achieve what they want and the only solution is war.

Lena. WOOOOWWW. Let me show you what Lena was like in book 1
in book 2 she was coming out of her shell and gaining confidence
Book 3 she, especially the ending when she was overcome by grief and hate,

AND BOOK 4 SHE HAS BECOME A KILLING MACHINE. A COLD KILLING MACHINE.

BUT STILL KICK ASS!!

Lena's character  transformation is the most dramatic one i've ever read about. From a bullied teen, to a confident soldier she has really left an impression on me. Throughout the series we see her evolve and become this witty, confident i say this again, kick ass soldier. Believe me when i say she kicks Katnis and Tris thousands of miles away from the strong-soldier-kick-ass-heroine throne. I think what i really appreciated in this book, is that Lena isn't perfect and the author didn't try to make her that way. She deals with grief in a very BAD way and yet it was just intriguing. She kills, she doesn't feel, wants revenge, uses Tarek-now i'm not saying it's right but i can't really blame her after her loss. Lena is completely broken. I was sad but come on, it was seriously awesome to read about her character falling apart, you rarely see that in books. Protagonists are usually the saints.

We had some chapters from Tarek's POV. Man my heart was breaking for him. He can't help Lena, and for him the girl he once knew and loved is gone. He will always be there for her but he's just devastated. On top of that, Arcus has become a refuge and could fall apart. He has to make a decision between Lena and his world. How long will he be there for her just when she wants him to be? Lena is broken, but Tarek is falling apart. Lena is pushing him away and his heart is breaking.

Now for something a bit cheerier. FARREN <3 The love of my life in this book!!! His relationship with Lena as an older brother never ever fails to warm my heart, They are just so adorable together!!! Another thing i loved was the gang. All super unique, kick-ass and awesome. Loved Lena's interactions with them, a really tight knit group despite all the fighting and the swearing!

Plot wise, this series will never fail to amaze me. There is no better way to describe it, these books OVERFLOW with action, the last one more than the previous one. It's dark and thrilling! The twists and the revelations! WOW! I never saw all of that stuff coming! The ending is bitter so bitter. Needless to day, I WANT BOOK 4!!!!!!

I cannot recommend this series enough for all fans of Hunger Games, Divergent or any YA fantasy/romance/action lover. This series will blow your expectations right out of the water!

BEAUTIFUL CURSE ARC REVIEW

“A fun and fresh twist on a well-loved story! The Cupid and Psyche romance is my favorite myth and McConnel's whimsical take did not disappoint. An absolute delight, I loved every moment of this love story and instantly wanted more.” - Rachel Harris, author of THE FINE ART OF PRETENDING

Beautiful Curse has been shortlisted for the Gayle Wilson Award Of Excellence

MY REVIEW

Mya is a an average school girl until one day she wakes up and finds herself completely changed. She has this kind of otherworldly beauty that does not escape anyone's attention. Because of her "beauty curse" her mom leaves and her dad resorts to alcohol. And instead of being praised or even acknowledged positively at school, she is shunned and bullied. Friendless and lonely, Mya's life has become hell until a strange man offers her escape. She accepts but it's not what she imagined it would be. She is sent to a castle where she sees no one except for a select few but is aware of the presence
of others. Whatever she wants she gets and on top of that the castle seems to have a mind of its own. Every night she dines with the mysterious Ross who does not allow her to see him but how long can she hold out? Especially since they both fall in love...

I was pretty sceptic about this book, i was scared Mya would come out vain or too victimised. Thankfully she was neither of those things! she was actually super sweet and never gloated or pitied herself. I also loved the fact that she drowned her sorrows in art, you could really feel her passion.

The setting!!! It almost rivals the castle in Cruel Beauty!!that castle ROCKS!!!from an invisible friendly buttler to a magical wardrobe this book has it all! It definitely gives off the magic vibe.

This book reminded me of one of my fav french book when i was kid so i was practically savouring ever single moment of it!

The reason i couldn't really give it 5 stars was because of the romance and Ross' character, was underdeveloped. Ross was mysterious but i couldn't get any read on him. The romance was sweet but i didn't understand how the shift between a dinner and love occured. Also it lacked some darkness.

Other than that, it was a great retelling and a unique take too. Loved the ending and the messages the author puts into the book.

MY REVIEW

Anna ran away from her rich abusive father and her submissive mother at the age of thirteen. She hopped on a bus and disappeared for three years. She never expected the turn of events that led her into prostitution. And yet they happened. But Anna gets caught and goes back to her family and school. Rumors fly and bullying starts but Anna tries her best to keep her past away from Jackson, the sweet boy that seems to be her shield. But someone of her past is back and they won't let Anna live in peace as they threaten to destroy her fresh start and unveil all her past.

First off, what an amazing book! It deals with a pretty touch subject-prostitution. And of course, maybe others did that too, i was pretty judgmental of Anna before the story progressed. And i guess that's what the author wanted to show us-there are reasons for everything. Anna is STRONG. I can't really blame her for running away and i agree that most of her decisions were stupid but this book felt like it was about mistakes and fixing them. And no matter how much Anna is victimized because of her young age, i seriously think she's a survivor-not a victim.

I guess i was kind of irritated at times with her because she kept saying how she was 'in love' with Luis, (her pimp i guess?) and how he could never use her. I just wanted to yell at her 'How can you be so blind!' But anyway she has been brainwashed for three years and it had a huge psychological impact on her so i couldn't really blame her.

I loved the writing style. You could really feel Anna's torment and her need for a fresh start. You also get little sneak peaks and flashbacks throughout the story that keep you super intrigued before everything comes together in the end. So basically, Anna's background isn't just given, its just snippets here and there that come together.

Oh Jackson. SO SWEET!!! He's not the popular guy at school-in fact he's pretty much bullied despite being drop dead gorgeous. I loved his easy going relationship with Anna and the fact that he protected her without making her look weak. Okay there is a doggy in this book which i LOVE!!

I think this book is a must read for everyone. It's a story about finding out where you belong and who you really are. Wow that sounded cheesy! But yep that's the truth. The story isn't just about Anna's escape and how she faced her past but also about how her mother faced her problems. It has EVERYTHING  a dark contemporary lover would want. Loved that ending and especially the evolution in Anna!!

THE SHADOWS REVIEW

TITLE: The Shadows
AUTHOR: Megan Chance
SERIES: The Fianna Trilogy Book 1
PUBLICATION  DATE: June 3 2014

PUBLISHER: Skyscape
SOURCE: Netgalley
RATING: 3.5 STARS!!!

Goodreads Summary

Grace Knox has grown up hearing the folktales of her Irish ancestors, especially about the warriors who fought for control of Ireland. In 19th-century New York City, however, these legends are far from Grace's mind. She's much more concerned with how to protect her family from debt collectors, and whether her childhood friend Patrick Devlin will propose. Patrick is a member of the Fenian Brotherhood, a group of young Irish American men intent on fighting for the independence of their homeland, whatever the cost. Patrick and the Brotherhood use ancient magic to summon mythical warriors to join their fight to protect Ireland. One of them, Diarmid, finds himself drawn to Grace, and she to him. When Diarmid discovers that, in their desperation, the Brotherhood has also summoned a rival group of ancient warriors, he warns Patrick that there will be bloodshed. Grace is caught in the middle of two men she loves, and discovers she alone holds the power to save Ireland?but at a dangerous price.

MY REVIEW

Grace Knox is in a compromising financial situation. Her sick mother is forced to give lessons, her brother is a drunk and has gambled pretty much everything in her house and her grandmother is going crazy. The only way for her to repay all her debts is to marry in a rich family. Patrick Devlin, her childhood friend, comes back to town and they are both drawn together. It isn't long before they fall in love and become close to being engaged. However, what Grace doesn't know is that Patrick forms part of a brotherhood dedicated to save Ireland from the British rule. They summon a gang of ancient Irish warriors using magical artifacts but when they don't appear, they summon enemy warriors.

What they don't know is that the warriors they first summoned have appeared but don't know who has summoned them. They try to find who summoned them and Diarmid gets involved with Grace. They have a common goal-to save Ireland but will they go through with it? Despite her love for Patrick, she can't help but love the danger that accompanies Diarmid. But both guys are keeping secrets from her. Grace finds herself in the middle of a prophecy that will ultimately lead to her death whichever side she chooses...

Interesting story plot-loved to know about the Irish warriors and the druids. The background was super interesting but there was a lack of happening. There were alternating POV's-Grace, Diarmid and Patrick so you were able to follow the story pretty well.

I liked Grace a lot. She was spunky and strong but sometimes she irritated me a little. I think the love triangle was given way too much importance in the book. I mean the plot is about war-and there was none of that. The book was basically filled with the preparation but not the actual details on the bigger image.

I loved Patrick-sweet and cute. Diarmid was pretty awesome too but he was supposed to be like centuries-old awakened warrior and yet he flirted and was cocky like a teen boy. Patrick was much more-mature? He just seemed older and Diarmid never gave me the impression that he was a legendary warrior.

Aiden was a pretty intriguing character to me. As Grace's brother he almost never acted like it, so why was he drunk all the time? We find out a bit later in the book-yep its something magical and unexpected!

I did not expect the ending-pretty much threw me off and i really wonder what will happen next! As for the guys-i have no team so far-although i'm leaning towards Patrick :P !

MY REVIEW

Charlie is haunted by her father's death. She can't understand how he died and can't help but think someone had a hand in it from the nightmares that plague her. He ex-best friend Alex has been paying more attention to her and her old feelings for him surge up again but she doesn't know if she wants to rekindle their friendship since she was the one who broke it. Then one night. she finds herself in the woods with torn clothes but no scratches. A mysterious boy named Peter escorts her home but he can't seem to keep his distance despite the fact that he should. As their relationship intensifies, Charlie is drawn into the unexpected world of the supernatural where even Alex is keeping his own secrets. Caught in an unexpected love triangle and a fight for power, Charlie will have to survive the overwhelming secrets and find out exactly what happened to her father-or it could cost her, her life.

Synopsis looks great right? The book was great! Amazing even..but then why 3.5 STARS???? Grammar mistakes and missing words!!!!  IN THE FIRST PARAGRAPH OF CHAPTER 1. And for a book that was published about six months ago-that's kind of a big deal. At first i thought i could ignore it but the one in the first paragraph of a first chapter really bugged me. I mean the first chapter is supposed to captivate you and make you want to keep reading. But anyway that kind of threw me off. I know there are grammar mistakes in my reviews sometimes..but for a published book i expected more.

So why did i keep reading? Because the plot was great! It is definitely an amazing book! Absolutely thrilling and enticing setting! You really do not see that ending and figure out what we're dealing with until Charlie does..so it was pretty cool to be on the journey with her and not in advance.

And let's not mention the guys! Peter and Alex? DROOL. Not usually a fan of love triangles but this one wasn't so bad. Both guys were incredibly hot, sweet, funny and yet unique.

Charlie as a protagonist was pretty much awesome. She has a don't-mess-with-me attitude. She's strong and does not allow herself to be bullied. Definitely not vain-just normal. And i guess that's what i liked about her. She's someone you can relate to and cheer on.

This book has AMAZING potential.I seriously see it overpowering twilight. I recommend this to everyone but it would be even better if an editor  could come and touch up this diamond in the rough!!! I did like the book and i'm interested in seeing what happens next!
