WICKED: WITCH & CURSE (WICKED#1-2)                                                           BY NANCY HOLDER AND DEBBIE VIGUIE

Goodreads Summary                             2 STARS

Complete text of Witch and Curse in a single volume.

Holly Cathers's world shatters when her parents are killed in a terrible accident. Wrenched from her home in San Francisco, she is sent to Seattle to live with her relatives, Aunt Marie-Claire and her twin cousins, Amanda and Nicole.

In her new home, Holly's sorrow and grief soon give way to bewilderment at the strange incidents going on around her. Such as how any wish she whispers to her cat seems to come true. Or the way a friend is injured after a freak attack from a vicious falcon. And there's the undeniable, magnetic attraction to a boy Holly barely knows.

Holly, Amanda, and Nicole are about to be launced into a dark legacy of witches, secrets, and alliances, where ancient magics yield dangerous results. The girls will assume their roles in an intergenerational feud beyond their wildest imaginations...and in doing so, will attempt to fulfill their shared destiny.

MY REVIEW

i bought this book because it was big and cheap. Yeah i know it was a dumb reason but it was also about witches so i went for it. Big Mistake. first off i'd like to say that the author is very talented because the way she wrote and the descriptions of the settings and spells were really amazing.i also liked the alternating chapters between the ancestors and the present. The plot was extremely well thought out. She has amazing writing skills that's for sure.

But then...the bad stuff. for starters the characters were not warm. you didn't have any insight of their personalities, to me they were just names on a page. You don't know what they like, what they dislike or anything. You can't relate to them at all or get a feel for their personalities, then the thing that made my blood BOIL was the FRENCH. If you decide to use a foreign language in your book, write it correctly PLEASE!!! i found like 5 grammar mistakes and i was just MAD.I am not exaggerating when i say an eight year old Mauritian could have corrected these errors.

The other thing i didn't like was the love story it just wasn't well elaborated. and Holly and Jer met literally twice i think and that's it. TWICE!! and they're already in love??? They have barely exchanged more than thirty words and they're in LOVE??!!! There was absolutely no build up to their relationship! Then a lot of time passes between Holly's discover of her powers and her actually using it. We don't know how she learned or practiced or anything-a few pages after her discovery she ALREADY mastered her powers like a pro, but how??? And then, shocking part, Hollie just KILLS and animal that she trusts without proper motivation!! I HATED her in that moment, how could you kill your pet???? There was no girl power considering Hollie was supposed to be with her two cousins...

so the 2 stars go for the amazing writing skills and the plot itself because i liked the story of the Deveraux wanting to kill all the Cahor witches and their old feud and so on. I'm really sad i didn't like it because the plot looked very promising. But definitely not continuing or rereading this series...
