Hoping creative direction will help her, Rune’s mother sends her to a French arts conservatory for her senior year, located in an opera house rumored to have ties to The Phantom of the Opera.

At RoseBlood, Rune secretly befriends the masked Thorn—an elusive violinist who not only guides her musical transformation through dreams that seem more real than reality itself, but somehow knows who she is behind her own masks. As the two discover an otherworldly connection and a soul-deep romance blossoms, Thorn’s dark agenda comes to light and he’s forced to make a deadly choice: lead Rune to her destruction, or face the wrath of the phantom who has haunted the opera house for a century, and is the only father he’s ever known.

A.G. Howard was inspired to write SPLINTERED while working at a school library. When she's not writing, A.G.'s pastimes are reading, rollerblading, gardening, and family vacations which often include impromptu side trips to 18th century graveyards or condemned schoolhouses to appease her overactive muse.

*Advisory: Contains some sensual/sexual content

This is my very first pirate book! i am a MEGA fan of the pirates of the Caribbean so i was super excited to start this :P

The summary basically says it all, Abigail is taken as a hostage onto Captain James' ship when the latter attacks her father's ship. Of course they're after treasure! By keeping Abigail hostage, James thinks he can trade her for the location of the treasure but Abigail is fiercely loyal to her father.

The romance was quite sweet and they were both on the fence of each other. Abigail planned to seduce the captain so that he would eventually let her flee back to her own ship and James planned to seduce her so that he could get the treasure. Basically their relationship did not start out on pure romantic attraction and in the end it all boiled down to trust because no natter how much they loved each other, they loved their goals just as much. It was a pretty even tug on each side because neither was willing to forsake their cause to be with one another.

There wasn't really a "villain" in this book. Abi's father came out as a loving overprotective father but who loved his gold just as much and i loved that the true nature of Pirates shown through this book.

Abi was a pretty likable character. She was smart, unrelenting and courageous! There was one scene where i actually screamed into my pillow because i was dying of embarrassment-for her!!! But thankfully it wasn't as bad as i originally thought :P !

Overall a great quick romantic read. It doesn't really focus on a journey to find a treasure or war; these take the backstage so that the romance becomes the main theme! P.S Can absolutely be read as a standalone!!

ONE WISH AWAY ARC REVIEW

One Wish Away (Djinn Empire, #1)TITLE: One Wish Away
AUTHOR: Ingrid Seymour
SERIES: Djinn Empire #1
PUBLICATION DATE: February 7 2017
PUBLISHER: PenDreams
SOURCE: Netgalley ARC

Faris is a Djinn with a secret and Marielle the first master to give him hope. Will she be the one to break his curse? There is no telling. All he really knows is she's ONE WISH AWAY from breaking his heart.

When Marielle was little, she used to believe Grandpa about his wish-granting Djinn. But now that she’s older, her beliefs have changed, and things like lousy ex-boyfriends and alcoholic fathers have become her reality.

Life isn’t done shattering her truths, though, and when Grandpa dies and the Djinn he warned her never to trust shows up at her doorstep, the world becomes a dangerous, magical place she never knew existed. Reeling for her once-normal life, Marielle soon realizes there’s no going back—not when she’s become part of a mortal conflict between two spell-bound Djinn. Faris—her handsome slave. And Zet—his vengeance-hungry brother. They both want something from her. One, her love. The other one, her life.

Now she’s afraid she will die in love.

One Wish Away is a young adult paranormal romance that will appeal to lovers of Hush Hush, Twilight, and the Fallen series.

Marielle has grown up with tales of the djinn of her grandfather and she's memorized his rule: The djinn wants to get out and he will trick you'. Now that he's passed, she's left in charge of his shop and unfortunately the stone that contains a djinn. A runaway father, a dead mother, a jackass ex boyfriend and now a dead grandfather, Marielle isn't really in the mood to deal with a magical djinn...

Marielle has trust issues, and i get where she's coming from with all the dudes in her life being total douches except for her grandpa...But at times i was just confused at what she was doing and why she was doing it...especially her interactions with her friend Maven were a little weird. But in all she was a courageous character and had a stroke of genius in the end! She was quite selfless but not in the conventional way-that made her way more realistic-she struggled with making her wishes and sometimes thought about making selfish ones before she changed her mind. Really mature character!

Faris was quite an interesting character. He had the cocky sexy role down but one thing that was super unique about him was that he was really sensitive. He was easily hurt and he seemed at times quite fragile. I loved the contrast of his endearing and teasing attitude to his insecurities and soft side. He was so sweet and kind!!! I also liked the fact that he hates being a djinn, it's the first book i've read where the djinn hates being a servant and is bitter about it. He did sulk a bit so it ended up being kinda cute when you thought about an immortal djinn sulking!

As for the plot itself, you don't have to wait at all, from the first few pages you get swept into the action. But i felt that the real plot came a little too late in the story...I would have liked to have seen much more of Zet because he was a really interesting character. And there was quite a rush of explanation at the end. I also hoped we explored more of the djinn world because there are a lot of questions! The whole brother drama between Faris and Zet came a little too late, i wish we'd seen more of that.

There was a great build up to the romance. Marielle wasn't easily swayed and she kept her head firmly on her shoulders throughout the book. Marielle has really bad experiences with the men in he r life including her father so she's not that easily won over. She's distrustful and tends to push everyone away to avoid getting hurt and Faris, with his never ending kindness and sweetness was just what she needed to restore her faith in guys!

Overall it was a quick read but i'm not sure i was gripped by the plot :/ Nevertheless enjoyable!

POISONED IRIS REVIEW

TITLE: Poisoned Iris
AUTHOR: Cindy Mezni
SERIES: The Red Era #1
PUBLICATION DATE: December 21st 2016
PUBLISHER: Evatopia Press
SOURCE: Free copy from author for an honest review

Athens was once the cradle of civilization. Now it's slowly but surely becoming the tomb of humanity.

The Red Plague, a violent virus which had run rampant decades ago, left its imprint on the planet and the flesh of men. All that remains of the modern world is an endless wasteland of ruins—Erebos—and two cities—Elysion, the obscure island of the Non-Infecteds about which no one knows a thing, and, Tartaros, the crumbling town of the Infecteds where despair, hatred, violence and poverty are the keywords.

And at the heart of this universe lives Irisya, a sixteen-year-old Non-Infected girl, staying recluse in her home to be safe and relying on her brother, Memphis, for everything.

But then, one day, he disappears without a trace.

Irisya has no choice. To save him, to survive, she will have to brave all the dangers of the outside world.

Irisya and her brother are Non-Infected leaving in the land of Infected. To keep their identity a secret, Irisya is forced to stay at home and her brother is forced to mutilate himself to appear like the Infected or else they'll be taken into Elysion-the land of the Non Infected where no one knows what happens to them. But one night, Memphis arrives home in a hurry and in the morning he's gone leaving Irisya to fend for herself for the first time and she will stop at nothing to find her brother all while trying to keep her identity as a non-Infected secret.

Irisya was a very unusual character! Btw what a beautiful name!! She came off as a really delicate character, not weak but just extremely fragile. She'd been forced to stay in the house and never really had to face the outside world and only knew it from her brother's stories. She relied heavily on her brother and when he's gone she's scared to death. And that's the first thing that i liked about her, she never even hesitated once before she left to find her brother. She was scared to death about being found, she didn't know how to fire a gun-she knew nothing. And yet she found the courage to go after him without a second thought. She was unwavering in her loyal to her cause despite the many setbacks and hardships she had to face.

The character development was amazing! I think in may of the YA novels nowadays many of the protagonists are already badass and sometimes they become even more so or they just keep being badass but in this book you really got to appreciate the character development! Irisya emerged from this scared but courageous girl to this determined kickass character. But i have a feeling there's way more to her than being only a non-infected because we keep getting subtle hints in the book that she's not quite only a non-infected so that remains to be seen!

I want to comment on the relationship between Irisya and her brother Memphis! It was SO BEAUTIFUL!!! I WANT A MEMPHIS!!!!!! He was so protective and sweet to his sister! and i loved that he described her as 'the human part of him'. There's a scene that literally made my eyes tear up in the book between Memphis and Irisya!! UGH i just love them!!!!

Romance was off the charts!!! Seriously kudos to the author for balancing the plot and the romance equally so that they both took center stage! Cillian was a very complex character to understand. At the beginning he hated Irisya because she posed a threat to his friend, Gem, because she was a non-infected plus there was that prejudice of the non-infected that came to play. I actually found that super interesting that the Infected were disgusted by the Non-Infected! Really cool paradox! I eventually warmed up to Cillian because he was on survival mode and you had to be to survive in this world.

As for side characters, Memphis was my favorite! But Gem was so badass!!! She was so strong despite the atrocities she survived and she was so selfless. In a world where you have to fend for yourself or die, she keeps trying to save Irisya despite that fact that Cillian  tried to dissuade her. Gem and Cillian's relationship was a little confusing at first- i won't spoil-but i loved what it was all along despite the original confusion!

"In the past, it was a matter of skin colour, nationality, sexual orientation, money, opinion or even religion. Today it's a matter of marks or the absence of them in the skin."

As for the plot, it was fast paced and really exciting! There were quite a few surprises and treacheries. We get gangs, underground tunnels, rebellions. human trafficking and a whole lot more! Excellent world building! And a great cliffhanger!!!!!

If you're looking for a fresh, unique, action packed, romance and feels filled dystopia then read this!!! I'm so happy my first review of January is for this book!!!! It was a great start to the year!

2017 BOOKISH RESOLUTIONS

Hey guys! So HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! This is just gonna be a brief post on my bookish resolutions this year!

My first big priority is attending YALC for the 3 whole days! Back in 2015, i got a ticket to go to london on the weekend that YALC started. My flight would have landed at 1 am in the morning on the very last day of the event! And i would have made it maybe an hour late and utterly exhausted. AND THEN. My flight got retarded. Firstly by a few hours, by then my YALC dreams were completely crushed and i was literally bawling my eyes out in the car ride back from the airport. And then to dig it in a little deeper, they called and said my flight had been postponed to the next day. So while i was boarding the plane, YALC was in its last hour...

Image result for why do this to me gif

THIS YEAR-NOTHING WILL GET IN MY WAY. I'm buying my ticket early, got permission from my Uncle already and i'm going in March so there's no way i can miss YALC in July. I've watched so many videos on how to prep for this event and i'm so EXCITED!!!
Image result for you can't stop me gif

And mostly READ READ READ!!! I have a Goodreads goal of 120 books this year and i really hope to smash this challenge! And i'm now facing the hardest decision ever-What books do i bring with me to London and Uni!? Cause i don't have enough luggage space to bring all the ones i want :(

Image result for life is so unfair gif

I'm planning on focusing a lot more of my writing and start my second novel and hopefully get serious about publishing it. I'm trying to get a writing schedule going! And i'm really hoping to get way more into blogging this year. It was really hard before to juggle school and blogging but now i'm totally free so i'll be posting much more regularly!

Okay that's mostly it for me :P Hope you guys have an amazing year with plenty of wonderful reads <3!
