MY REVIEW

Blackwater Blaze is a wolfen. He and his pack are sent to the human world by Redhard Jax to kill the dead queen Tanaquill's heir since she can take the throne of the current king. But now his pack is dead and he is the only one left to kill the girl and he starts to wonder if Redhart Jax had purposely sent him there, knowing that his pack would be killed...Ashley has never felt like she belonged so when her aunt leaves her a weird book, goggles and an umbrella, Ashley is more than confused, after that she sees a teacher being eaten up by a wolfen. Blckwater Blaze is after the girl but with so many protectors he can't get to her but when she is attacked by something else, Blackwater Blaze has no doubt he's been betrayed by Redhart Jax. So together they journey to the Moonlands to find and destroy the king.

Pretty good book but i did find myself skipping through most of the stuff. I felt nothing for Ashley or Blaze in particular.. The plot was awesome but a teeny bit too simple. That's pretty much it for the negatives.

The fact that the whole world functions on moons was enough to intrigue me. The world building is vivid and entrancing and so beautifully described you actually feel like you're in another world. Ashley's bravery to save her world was pretty cool but i think what i liked the most was the ending. A pretty good cliffhanger!

Just a quick thin-i LOVE THOSE NAMES! Redhart Jaz, Blackwater Blaze and Ashkillion! Man i wish people in our world were named like that!

Savile is definitely making his way up the YA ranks!

TITLE: Haunting Violet

Goodreads Summary

Violet Willoughby doesn't believe in ghosts. But they believe in her. Now that she is being haunted by the ghost of a young woman, Violet can no longer ignore her unique ability. She must discover the mystery behind this girl's violent death, to prevent the ghost's twin sister from suffering the same fate. Fans of Alyx Harvey are in for a treat with this tale of unsolved murder and forbidden romance within the confines of Victorian high society.

MY REVIEW

I think i'm becoming a HUMONGOUS fan of Alyxandra Harvey!

In this tale she enchants us with yet another story based in the victorian society. Violet and her mother are not very wealthy so they pretend to be mediums that can see the dead. Along with them is Collin, a boy her mother had taken care of since he's mother had died. This trio has conned their way into the elite society. Until one day. they receive an invitation to Lord Jasper's manner house. Violet and her mother put on a well elaborated show for their audience leaving no evidence of their fake act. That is until Violet really starts to see ghosts. This ghost is a young girl who had been murdered and she won't leave Violet alone until her murderer is exposed. But as Violet unravels the web of mysteries, her life keeps teetering on the very brink of danger...

I absolutely cannot say anything bad about this book. Violet is a really sweet but determined character. She hates lying to people but doesn't have any choice unless she wants to end up homeless. Loved the romance between her and Colin who stood by her and trusted her whenever she needed it the most.  Violet's friend Elizabeth was awesome! She was full of life and really added loads of humor to this book. All the characters were so special and unique-especially the mother.

The events that led up to finding the murderer were so intriguing and i kept asking myself who the hell the killer was! I loved the stuff that happened to Violet as she discovered her powers under the ghost's stress, It outright creeped me out at times! All along she has to deal with the constraints of the victorian society, keep the eye of a potential husband, fight her feelings for Collin, deal with her crazy mother while finding a murderer!

Just a gripping, spine-tingling and haunting read from Alyxandra Harvey! One of the best standalones i've ever read!

Hello everyone! So i'm so excited for all of you to read Rachel's interview! For those of you who don't know, Rachel is the author of the Black Mage. Both books in the series have received an Astounding and well deserved five stars from my blog. If you want to check out the reviews, just click on the cover below!

ABOUT RACHEL
Rachel E. Carter lives in Placerville, California with her fiancĂ© and their two spoiled pets: a feisty feline named Charlie, and Zoey, an Australian Shepherd who gets jealous of her own shadow. She loves to organize –and when she is not color-coding her closet she is always looking for the next good book. She grew up reading about magic, hot bad boys, and lady knights. The Black Mage, her debut series, is a tribute to all the things she never stopped loving.

THE INTERVIEW

1.    How did you get inspired to write “The Black Mage” series?
My true inspiration came from a song I listened to in 7th grade (yea, that’s right, over 10 years ago!). I always get my favorite book/scene ideas when I listen to music. Anyways with the song I envisioned a guy & girl who were dueling in a huge arena with magic. They were rivals but you could tell there were some feelings involved that made it difficult to fight one another. Thus the concept of the Candidacy (a gladiator-style tournament with magic) and Ryiah/Darren were born.

2.    How did you feel when you held a tangible copy of your book for the first time?
I freaked out. Pretty much broke down sobbing. I don’t think anything will ever equate to that moment.

3.    Who is you favorite YA author and why?
I don’t really have just one, but if I had to I’d say it’s Tamora Pierce hands down. No one will ever be able to replicate her world-building, her kick-butt protagonists, her side characters, her awesome battle scenes, her magic… the list could go on forever. I have many favorite authors but Tamora Pierce is truly a queen in her own right.

4.  Which character did you have the most fun writing about?
Darren. I love his hot and cold personality and his back-and-forth dialogue with Ryiah. He’s complicated and his character evolves continuously over this series. I feel like readers never really know whether or not to trust him, and even after the second book is over he’s never what someone would describe as “safe.” He’s Mr. Complicated and I can’t wait for readers to learn more about his past in book three.

5.    Are you planning anything else after this series?
Ohhhh, so many more books and series. I have a list on my computer that is a mile long but I only trust myself to write one series at a time.

6.    Can you tell us a little bit about your journey from your draft to publication? Did you encounter any problems?
I quit my full-time job to work part-time and write two full days a week after I had written the first draft of “First Year.” Then it took me 4 months to finish, and when I did I really thought I was done. Words of wisdom: you are never, ever done with your first draft. And mine was particularly terrible: info-dumping and a very boring beginning (nothing like what people read in the book)… Needless to say, I queried agents too soon and got rejections. I spent months editing my manuscript and doing several rewrites until I finally got to a draft that landed me my publishing deal.

7.    What is your writing routine?
I have two full days off during the week to write, but most of the time is spent staring at the computer. My writing comes in waves, some weeks I do crazy word counts and the others I’m lucky to get a paragraph. When I do write each book’s plot is already broken down by chapter in advance with an expected word count, so that helps keep me on track. I also have book playlists on my iTunes so I have theme music for a lot of scenes I write and that helps. And coffee and Diet Dr. Pepper, because this writer needs a lot of caffeine.

8.    How do you deal with writer's block???
Scream, cry, throw things… then do nothing. Stop trying and watch Netflix. Eat junk food. Clean the house. Read a good book. Then try to write again. Sometimes you just need to take a break from it, but never let yourself stay away more than a week. If it persists I download a new CD, because sometimes I just need new music to be inspired.

9. Any advice for future writers??
Read, read, read all your fave books/authors and study what works. Invent a style of your own and write what you always wanted to read. Don’t write because you want to make money/write the next big trend, write what you are passionate about because readers will be able to recognize that and hopefully share your passion!

EITHER OR
1. Hardcover or paperback? Paperback. Hardbacks don’t fit in my bookcase and they mess up my system.
2. coffee or hot chocolate? COFFEE! Iced coffee with 2% milk, no sugar –from Starbucks, to be exact.

3. Pizza or burgers? PIZZA. Vegetarian or chicken pesto!

4.Hunger Games or Divergent? Hunger Games, hands down!

I would like to thank Rachel for doing this interview!! <3 her answers! Don't forget to check out her books guys!!

TITLE: IRONSIDE
AUTHOR: HOLLY BLACK
SERIES: A MODERN FAERIE TALE BOOK 3
RELEASE DATE: August 6th 2007
PUBLISHER: Simon & Schuster children books
RATING: 4 STARS!!!

Goodreads Summary

When pixie Kaye declares herself to Roiben on the day of his coronation, he is forced to send her on a seemingly impossible quest. Now Kaye is forbidden to see or speak to him unless she can find the one thing she knows doesn't exist: a faerie who can tell a lie.

MY REVIEW

This book pretty much rocked! I loved dwelling back into Holly Black's dark  world of faerie.

Roiben is ready to sit on the throne of the Unseelie court. Kaye is living with her grandmother and will do anything to attend his coronation. However being from the Seelie court, Roiben's court does not fully approve of her so during his coronation, two women approach her and tell her that she has to declare her love to Roiben formally to become his consort.Kaye does so and Roiben is obliged to give her a task and if she fulfills it then they can be together, she can't see him until she does. And the quest is....drum roll please!!

Find a faerie that can lie! Impossible right? Or is it?

While Kaye struggles to solve her task, Corny is doing his own damage. He's trying to find a way to protect himself but lets just say his methods gets him cursed! In the meantime, the seelie queen is attacking the unseelie while they have not risen to full power yet.

There's a lot of questions about if we should read Valiant before reading Ironside..i haven't read Valiant but  from what i've heard, it's in the same world but totally different characters. ironside picks up straight from Tithe so there was no missing details or anything like that.

I loved this book much more than the first one although it did drag on at times. I kinda expected a quest and adventure but it was much more focused on the fact that the seelie queen wanted Kaye and the answer to the riddle just seemed to stumble on her.

It sometimes felt like Kaye was the second character and Corny was the main. Everything seemed to be centered on him and Kaye was just tagging along. I sometimes didn't really understand why he seemed so addicted to Faerie and then there were things he'd do that would just make him outright nasty...

But i did enjoy this book way better than the first one. I think Holly Black is an amazing writer in the sense that she creates unique and dark atmospheres. Her writing is definitely beautiful but i'm just not sure i feel for the characters except for Roiben....

Isabella's Heiress (book 1)TITLE: Isabella's Heiress
AUTHOR: Neil Griffiths

SOURCE: Free copy from publisher in exchange for an honest                       review
RATING: 4 STARS!!!

Goodreads Summary

Isabella's Heiress follows the adventures of Emma Elliott as she discovers that life can get so much more complicated after death.

Emma's journey takes her from the afterlife to her old existence and back again. Along the way she meets friends, both old and new, and realises that nothing is as it seems. She discovers a world inhabited by two groups of angels, one bent on the subjugation and ultimate destruction of mankind, the other just as determined to ensure that this does not happen.

To leave this world, Emma must pass a deceptively simple task but with the forces arrayed against her, she starts to wonder why, of all the people who have found themselves in this world, she is being singled out for such special attention.

As her story unfolds, more questions arise in her mind. Who is Isabella, the woman she is constantly mistaken for?

Who are the mysterious Cado Angelus who seem to want Emma to fail no matter what the cost?
And what part does Emma have to play in the events that will soon unfold in her world and ours.

Horror and Fantasy fonts

The book opens up with a war scenery. Isabella seems like the hope of the people as she gives her soldiers encouragement before they plunge into the war, Isabella fights to her very last breath; until she mysteriously disappears from the battle...

Emma Elliott finds herself all alone in a misty version of London, she is approached by Father Eamon who tells her that she's dead and is now in another realm-between heaven and hell and tells her that she now has a chance to choose her own fate. He reveals himself to be her guardian as she travels and explores the dark and misty version of London where a war between good and bad angels rages. But Emma has a dark past; one that fills her with guilt over the death of her little sister a few years back. But along for the journey, is Emma's best friend who had died earlier and was now in the same realm as Emma. From what i've understood, these people living in that realm have tasks, but there are evil things that set out to stop them. But the mysteries keep growing in this book.. Who is Isabella and where does Emma fit, in this war?

I think this was a pretty interesting book. It was beautifully described and the author paid special attention to ever ounce of detail. The plot itself was extremely well thought out and it is the kind of book that keeps you guessing with mysteries. However, i will admit this is a little out of my comfort zone, That is, it isn't YA. Emma is an adult so the story is kind of an adult/paranormal.

Character wise, i think Emma was an okay character, There was nothing really special about her-just her overwhelming guilt. I guess that's because the author wanted to focus the attention on the plot itself. I did like Emma's best friend though! She made me laugh quite a few times. I was a bit wary of Father Eamon at first, i didn't know what to expect of him-was he a good guy or was he bad guy pretending to be a good guy? He had this kind of dignified air. It was a beautiful setting for this story to take place in; the constant mist that hovered really made you feel like something would just jump out of it any second!

I did really enjoy this book. However it was pretty long. I feel like the start was intriguing but slow and the real plot only evolves after a long while-so yeah it did drag on at times. Second thing is, i think this book lacked a tiny bit of romance. All my books have romance in them! Of course, this is my personal taste!!! I know that a lot of you will probably love this book! I just personally felt the absence of romance according to my likes.

I did love the ending!!!! I don't know if this is a series because i think this can be read as a standalone. The epilogue really made me smile though!

Neil Griffiths weaves a beautiful story full of intrigue and worthy of being called a novel!

SOURCE: ARC GIVEAWAY
RATING: 5 STARS!!!

Goodreads Summary

She survived a trial year at the Academy, but that was just the easy part…

Now sixteen-year-old Ryiah is an apprentice in Combat, her school’s most notorious faction of magic. When she finishes she will be a mage, but in order to do so she has to survive four years with a training master she hates and her old nemesis, Priscilla. To make matters worse the unwanted attraction Ry feels for her sometimes-friend-sometimes-rival Prince Darren is at an all time high –even though he is betrothed to the very girl she can’t stand.

Really, the only bright spot to Ryiah’s new life is the time she spends with her friends, including an older apprentice named Ian, who she finds herself thinking about quite often.

Just when things start to get comfortable they take a turn for the worse. An apprentice is killed in a rebel attack and several mages end up dead. Unwittingly, the apprentices find themselves in the midst of a budding unrest between Jerar and its northern neighbor, Caltoth. For Ryiah the impending conflict means many things, but as her apprenticeship draws to a close she finds her biggest problem at home.

Unfortunately for her, Darren’s not going anywhere.

MY REVIEW

*takes deep breath*. I think i'm in love with this book. *exhales*.

I love book 1. i love book 2. Simple as that. Okay whew, the first two lines were meant to give you the impression that i'm a calm and mature reader that just really loves this book. This is reality...(I've put together a little GIF mix of my feelings for this book. That should tell you exactly how i feel before i get to the actual review)

Okay now review time. Book 1 ended with Ryiah being selected to become an apprentice. This book deals with her journey from being a 2nd year to a 5th year. Ah our dear Ryiah hasn't changed one bit! Well aside that she got better in Combat. She's still extremely short-tempered, still has an attitude, still hates her Combat teacher and still likes Darren no matter how much she tries to deny it.

Darren is still the top best in Combat but in this book i think i felt like we got to know him a little more. There were sides to him i'd never thought i'd see but there they were! The action was over the top in this book, just completely thrilling! Another thing i wanted to say about Darren , i alternated between wanting to kiss him and slap him in the face. He was one of the most intriguing and infuriating characters i've ever read about. Sometimes i wante to puch him for what he was doing to Ryiah and sometimes to hug him when he got all determined to win her over. Then i wanted to console him when he was sad then knock him off a peg or two when he was being a show-off. I absolutely loved all those emotions the author put me through! He's conflicting emotion were going to tear my neck off since i didn't know what directiong his was aiming for anymore.

We get to see Darren's life at the palace and also there's some real danger and Ry gets thrown into it. Lives are lost, people are injures. friendships are teetering off the edge of a cliff. I liked hearing about Ry's little brother-it really gave us the notion of time especially as Ry's years flew by. Like the first book, there's been so much tidal waves of emotion!!!

I don't really like love triangles but i can't really say this was one of them. For one i love Darren but i do have a soft spot for Ian and i felt really bad for him at times. I was laughing and grinning most of time due to Ry's spontaneous and daring nature. Amazing heroine and she felt real. That's another thing i love about this series, there's no perfect heroine or perfect prince. The tension between Ry and Darren was literally sizzling every time they fought. As for Alex, still love his over protectiveness for Ry <3 so sweet! Makes me wish i had a brother like that! Nothing bad to say about this one. Just perfection and OMIGAWD-WHAT AN ENDING!!!!!

What the freak will happen in the 3rd book???when is it coming out!!????Will we hear bells tolling!!?????Will we be seeing a black cape on Ryiah soon!!????
*AND THE FANGIRLING CONTINUES*

TITLE : ENLIGHTENMENT
SERIES: CHILDREN OF ANKH BOOK 2
AUTHOR: KIM CORMACK

*I received a free ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review*

 Goodreads summary (unavailable)         5 STARS!!!

MY REVIEW

Kim Cormack has done it again with this thrilling novel! I can honestly say i loved this book more than the first one!

Book 1 was so emotionally gripping i almost bawled but book 2 did not disappoint! Kayn is now eighteen and a member of clan Ankh. But she struggles with her newly found duties. Along with that, she is mourning the loss of her love, Kevin, to clan Triad. She's in constant battle with herself-should she let her best friend and love go or should she cling to his memory in hope that one day all would be well? Kevin had his memory wiped when he joined Triad and all his dreams seem to be of this mysterious blonde girl, but who is she? Why can't he remember?

This book felt like a book on self-discovery. Kayn really grows in this one and i kept remembering her form the last book and i felt her ease with her new friends. Her friendships grow in Ankh as she forges stronger bonds with each of the members every day. I felt her character was much more mature for example after all the loss she'd gone through, she still had to lose Matt(her  brother) but she understood why. I kinda missed his over protectiveness in this book, it was really sad to see him go. I did however adore Grey in this book! I really felt the sibling connection between him and Kayn. I loved the new characters as well-all different but all amazing

Let's talk about Frost! For one, i was absolutely thrilled to have seen more of him in this novel. I adore him so much!!Kayn struggles with her feelings for him. Now that she's merged with her twin, it seems that her sister's emotions have become her own. But how does she differentiate her feelings from that of her sister?? I don't know if Kayn is destined for love but she sure as hell is destined to be an amazing character in all the series to come.

This book often left me gasping when the unexpected happened. It's that feeling you get when you read a book and you're reading through a tense moment. You flip the page faster and faster because the tension is so high and then you have to read it all again to make sure you read it right. I loved that last paragraph of the book! It felt so confident and affirming as Kayn finally finds out who she was meant to be. She's grown so much and i'm sure she has so much stuff left to learn.

This book has it all, nail-biting sensations, love, action, friendship, intrigue, heartbreak and even some funny moments. Kim Cormack keeps adding new unique characters to her books and they all form part of this giant family that you can't help but love and envy! One thing is for sure, Kim Cormack is one heck of an amazing emotional writer!!!!

THE RETURN Synopsis: The Fates are cackling their bony asses off... It's been a year since Seth made the deal with the gods that pledged his life to them. And so far, the jobs they've given him have been violent and bloody--which is kind of all right with him. But now Apollo has something else in mind for Seth. He's got to play protector while keeping his hands and fingers off, and for someone who really has a problem with restraint, this new assignment might be the most challenging yet. Josie has no idea what this crazy hot guy's deal might be, but it's a good bet that his arrival means the new life she started after leaving home is about to be thrown into an Olympian-sized blender turned up to puree. Either Josie is going insane or a nightmare straight out of ancient myth is gunning for her. But it might be the unlikely attraction simmering between her and the golden-eyed, secret-keeping Seth that may prove to be the most dangerous thing of all. Because history has once again been flipped to repeat.
The Return -- Avaialable Now

THE RETURN Excerpt: I was a half-blood, but I was also the Apollyon, a child of a pure and a half, a union that had been forbidden for thousands of years because an Apollyon was more powerful than any pure or half could ever hope to be. And I always got to the traitors’ hideouts before they did, so the Sentinels were usually left with the cleanup, which I was sure absolutely thrilled them. The first to enter was a female half-blood dressed just as I was. Her black hair was pulled back in a neat little knot at the top of her head. She was older, probably in her mid-thirties. It was pretty rare for a Sentinel to live that long. Her dark skin paled as she stopped just inside the entrance. She clenched titanium daggers in her hands like she expected something vicious to pop out from under the bloody mess. The female Sentinel tipped her chin up, and the overhead light sliced across her broad cheekbones. She bore a jagged scar under her right eye, the skin lighter in tone. She saw me and froze. My smile widened. Behind her, another Sentinel rushed in, almost mowing her over. He saw me and whispered, “Seth.” He’d said my name like I was the monster under his bed, and I sort of liked that. Then another Sentinel and another rolled in. The fifth took one look at my interior design work and keeled over. Slamming his hands on his knees, he hurled up his dinner. Nice. Our society existed completely unknown to the average mortal and had operated under what was known as the Breed Order for thousands of years. The Order had been dismantled, which meant halfs were no longer forced to choose between becoming Sentinels—hunting down violent creatures, protecting pures, enforcing laws, and otherwise usually dying pretty damn quickly on the job—or servants, which was a job that really wasn’t a job, but more like slavery. Since then, many pampered pures had signed on to be Sentinels, making up for the loss of the halfs who’d pretty much said “screw this shit, I’m out.” This wasn’t necessarily a good thing. For example, the dumbass puking all over my blood-covered floor was a pure. When he straightened, his face a greenish hue, he backed away, shaking his head. “I can’t,” he gasped out. “I can’t do this.” Then he turned and hauled ass out the doors.
I sighed. This was why we couldn’t have nice things.

MY REVIEW

After the war, four families have risen to power and taken control over the lands of Rain City. The east bank was taken over by the Hara house-known as the black roses or thorns. The west bank by the Daggers, the south warf by the cowboys and the north by the Boat Men.

The roses and the daggers hate each other from generations back and when the daggers killed Valencia's father, her brother and his men got revenge and killed their father. The daggers are angry and demand the roses to meet them for a confrontation. Garett, Valencia's brother, never backed down from a challenge and he's arrogance pushed him to accept. At night, they ride on their bikes to the confrontation where Garett orders Valencia to fight Sebastian. The fight ends badly as they remember each other from their childhood and neither wants to deliver the killing blow. The watchmen of the society arrive and send the two gangs fleeing. These watchmen capture the Cursed and Valencia is in danger of being discovered. As they arrive, Valencia, Sebastian and his brother are forced to flee together to escape the watchmen. They forge and unlikely friendship. Valencia and Sebastian start to doubt their hate for each other. But as love blossoms, who will they stand by? Their family or each other? With the government chasing them throughout Rain City they are in constant danger. Will they betray one another to the watchmen just because of their rivalry and what they grew up believing in?

From the title to the very last sentence, i loved this book. Valencia is as beautiful as a rose and as dangerous as its thorns. After his father's death, Sebastian is sinking like a stone but Valencia makes him feel alive. Am i the only one thinking this is a perfect title?? I loved the atmosphere of the rivalry especially when the roses were called, The black prince and the black princess. I don't know how it explain it but this book was just perfect in all ways. It had action, a forbidden romance and tested loyalties. How can you go wrong there? The romance was lovely despite all the odds against them, the plot itself was thrilling and intriguing.

Loved the characters. Loved the setting. My favorite aspect was the rivalry though. The roses on bikes coming for the daggers. The hate, the planning-just everything. I'm going to say this again,I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! Can't wait for the sequel!  BTW EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS!!!
